Tyler Ramos | ALP Intern

Pianist and cellist Tyler Ramos is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. He began his musical education with the late Ellen Masaki, then with Dr. Thomas Yee at the University of Hawaii. He then studied with Dr. John Milbauer at the University of Arizona, where he held a class piano teaching assistantship under the direction of Dr. Lisa Zdechlik.

After graduating with an MM in 2019, Tyler moved to Rochester, NY to study with Professor Natalya Antonova as her assistant at the Eastman School of Music, where he currently holds class piano and collaborative piano teaching assistantships.

Tyler’s accolades include numerous grants and scholarships not limited to the following: Grand Prix in the Northern Lights International Piano Competition, the Presser Award, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, John Young Scholarship, Medici Scholar, and the Graduate and Professional Student Council travel grant from the University of Arizona.

He has also attended numerous summer music festivals including the Aloha International Piano Festival, Colburn Piano Festival, Hawai’i Chamber Music Festival (where he participated both as a pianist as well as a cellist), the Banff Piano Festival, and the Chautauqua Piano Festival. A noteworthy contender in the competition circuit, Tyler has won top prizes at the national MTNA piano competition, and first place in the national Lois Trester piano competition. Tyler’s repertoire includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto k. 503, Grieg’s Piano Concerto, Bartok’s Second Piano Concerto, Liszt’s Totentanz, and Chopin’s Piano Concerto no. 1 with orchestra.
