Our mission at ROCmusic is to leverage the collective resources of Rochester’s major cultural organizations, educational institutions, and governmental agencies to

provide exceptional music education and performance experiences

for youth residing in the City of Rochester, through year-long community-based programming and resident-informed activities.

School Year Programs

During the school year, ROCmusic students each choose a primary instrument of study including violin, viola, cello, string bass, trumpet, trombone, keyboard, bass guitar, drum set, and studio production. Students are then placed in a program track based on instrument, age, and experience. Click on each track below to learn details:

Readiness Strings

Studio Strings

Brass

Herb’s City Trumpets

Rhythm Section

ROCmusic students are also able to enroll in electives that provide additional musical training not on their primary instrument. These include classical guitar, keyboard, and Gospel Choir.

Visit our Electives page for more information.

Summer Programs

ROCmusic’s summer programs include opportunities for students across program tracks to study together in Rhythm Section & Beyond. In addition, ROCmusic students are connected with two of our collaborative partners, the Hochstein School of Music and Eastman Community Music School, for private lessons and camp opportunities.

Beginning in summer 2023, we also host Music Exploration Camps for students in the community to learn about and interact with a variety of musical instruments and genres.

Summer 2024 brings the addition of a Gospel Choir 101 course and a mentorship training program for our intermediate string students. For more information visit our home page at rocmusic.org.
