Emma Goldberg | Brass Musicianship

Emma Goldberg joined the ROCmusic Studio String Program faculty in the Fall of 2022 as an instructor, and is now a versatile instructor with the Readiness Strings. She is in her third year at the Eastman School of Music, majoring in Music Education and Double Bass Performance under the tutelage of James VanDemark. Prior to her time at The Eastman School, she studiedwith Dr. Spencer Phillips in Binghamton New York, where she grew up. Driven by her own experiences, Emma is particularly passionate about disability advocacy and inclusion in professional and educational artistic settings, and aims to encourage a more open dialogue about accommodation and advocacy for disabled musicians.

Along with teaching, Emma pursues performance both professionally and as a student. She currently plays with the Eastman Philharmonia, and has also played in concert with Tony Award Winning Renée Elise Goldsberry, the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra as Principal Bassist, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra as Assistant Principal Bassist, as a Section Bassist with the Eastman Opera Theater, as Principal Bassist of the Rochester Summer Opera, and SRO Productions III. She has previously served as Principal Bassist in the Grassroots Festival Orchestra, the “WFM” Festival Orchestra, and the Binghamton Community Orchestra. For the summer season of 2023, Emma was Princial Bassist at Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she studied with Leonid Finkelshteyn and participated in the String Leadership Program.
